Data Analyst Intern

Portcast is a venture-backed, Singapore-based logistics technology startup building a real-time transportation visibility platform for global supply chains. We help shippers, manufacturers, and logistics service providers turn data into decisions and decisions into measurable business impact. Our platform goes beyond visibility. Portcast enables action at scale by surfacing the right risks early, helping teams prevent detention and demurrage, accelerate exception management, and close invoices faster with built-in evidence. We turn visibility into outcomes: reduced costs, improved operational control, and more predictable supply chains. Founded in 2018 and backed by leading technology investors, we are building for an industry at a critical inflection point of digital transformation. Our team of software engineers, data scientists, and logistics experts is on a mission to make supply chains not just visible, but decisively actionable: end to end. ABOUT THE ROLE: Portcast runs on data, our engine predicts when, where, why, and by how many days a container will be delayed, and our customers trust those predictions to make actionable decisions. That trust depends on the data underneath being clean, connected, and reliable. As our Data Analyst Intern, you'll join the Data team and work closely with our Data Analysts and Data Scientists, reporting to our Data Lead. Your focus will be on data integrations and quality, connecting new data sources into our system, checking the data we ingest for gaps and anomalies, and supporting the QA and automation work that keeps our predictions accurate. This is a hands-on learning role: you won't just be handed a checklist. When something in the data looks off, we'll want you to dig into why, not just flag it. Curiosity and effort matter more here than knowing everything already and exceptional A+ player interns have a real path to a permanent role. WHAT YOU'LL OWN: • Check ingested and system-generated data for anomalies and gaps, and help trace them to the source. • Help build and run QA checks, report generation, and automations using Python and SQL. • Assist the Data Analysts on day-to-day customer data queries and dashboard upkeep. • Support new data-source integrations, connecting carrier and market data into our system, with guidance from the team. • Document what you build and what you find, so the team can rely on and reuse your work. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR: • Currently pursuing (Final-year student) or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Data Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Statistics, or a related field. • Working knowledge of Python and SQL, you don't need years of experience, but you should be able to write a query and a script and want to get sharper fast. • Prior internship experience in a Data Analyst or Business Analyst role, preferably in a product-based, lean startup particularly in logistics, ecommerce or B2B SaaS data-heavy domain. • Willing to learn over "already knows everything": we hire interns for curiosity and effort. You put in the work to understand our domain, product, data, and customers. • Curious by Default: when the data surprises you, you chase the why. You ask good questions early and treat every gap as something worth understanding. • You own your output, AI included. You can use AI tools to move faster, but you read and validate what they produce, you don't just paste it. If one day the tool isn't there, you can still write the query yourself. You can explain what you did and why, without saying "the AI did it." • An eye for detail: you notice when a number looks wrong before anyone else does. • Empathy and urgency: you understand that clean data is what customers are counting on, and you move promptly day to day. • Fluent in written and verbal English, and comfortable working in a diverse, fully remote team. WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU: • Real work from day one: you'll touch live data and integrations that customers actually depend on. • Mentorship: you'll learn directly from our Data Analysts and Data Scientists. • A path to permanent: strong & exceptional A+ player interns here have a real shot at converting to a full-time role. • Globally distributed, lean team remote-first flexibility: work with a fully distributed team across Asia and Europe, built on trust, accountability, and collaboration. Our CORE Values Guide Everything We Do: • Curiosity: We read the data before we trust it. We dig into why a number looks the way it does, not just how to make the anomaly disappear. • Ownership: We act like owners, not ticket-takers. We stay on a problem until it's actually fixed at the source. • Raising the bar: We don't settle for a report that only works this once. We aim for data pipelines and dashboards that are reliable, reusable, and easy for the team to trust. • Effectiveness: We focus on analysis that creates real product and customer impact. We prioritize the right problems, make practical trade-offs, and ship work that improves outcomes, not just output. Join us at Portcast and be part of a high-performing team that is shaping the future of the logistics and shipping industry through cutting-edge predictive analytics!
