Junior Tooling Engineer

Metalcool is a Singapore precision engineering company specialising in customized cutting tools for the aerospace and general engineering industries. We are looking for a Junior Tooling Engineer who enjoys understanding how things work and solving practical manufacturing problems, to support the design and manufacture of precision cutting tools through CNC programming, engineering drawing generation and production documentation. You will work with tool geometry, CNC programming, engineering drawings and production to turn customer requirements into finished cutting tools. Tooling-specific software and process training will be provided. Responsibilities • Prepare and update CNC tool-grinding programs using specialised software to define tool geometry, dimensions and tolerances • Generate corresponding 2D drawings and check that programs and drawings meet the job requirements • Review customer drawings, samples and specifications, and clarify missing or conflicting technical information • Inspect incoming tools for regrinding, checking their dimensions and condition • Support program trials and first-piece checks, and help investigate discrepancies with the production team • Prepare work orders, bills of materials, process routings and job instructions, including checking raw-material requirements • Maintain accurate, revision-controlled programs, drawings and production records, and submit technical work for verification Requirements • Diploma or Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Precision Engineering or a related discipline • Sound mechanical reasoning and an ability to interpret engineering drawings, dimensions and tolerances • Careful checking habits and a methodical approach to solving practical problems • Willingness to learn specialised software and work on the production floor • Initiative to ask questions, clarify requirements and follow through on assigned work • CAD, CNC, machining or inspection exposure through coursework, projects, internships or employment is an advantage Who We Are Looking For We are looking for someone who: • is interested in both CNC programming and engineering design; • can understand how programmed geometry translates into a manufactured tool; • checks technical details carefully rather than making assumptions; • is willing to learn specialised cutting-tool technology; • takes responsibility for the accuracy of their work; and • is comfortable working closely with the production floor.
