Retail Store Area Manager – Key Job Responsibilities • Multi-Store Operations Oversee the daily operations of multiple retail outlets.Ensure all stores follow company SOPs, policies, and operational standards.Conduct regular store visits and operational audits.Identify operational issues and implement corrective actions.Ensure stores are properly staffed and operationally ready. • Sales & Business Performance Drive sales and profitability across assigned stores.Set and monitor sales targets, KPIs, and budgets.Analyse sales performance and identify opportunities for growth.Develop action plans for underperforming stores.Monitor key indicators such as sales, basket size, transactions, wastage and gross profit. • People Management Lead and develop Store Managers and retail staff.Monitor manpower planning, staffing levels and productivity.Coach Store Managers to improve leadership and operational performance.Support recruitment, onboarding, training and staff development.Handle staff performance and disciplinary matters when required. • Inventory & Stock Management Ensure proper inventory control across all stores.Monitor stock availability, stock accuracy, shrinkage and wastage.Ensure proper merchandising and product availability.Review slow-moving and fast-moving products.Minimise stock loss and operational wastage. • Customer Service Maintain high customer-service standards across all outlets.Investigate customer complaints and implement corrective actions.Monitor store cleanliness, product presentation and service quality.Ensure stores provide a consistent customer experience. • Financial & Cost Control Monitor store P&L and operating expenses.Control labour, utilities, wastage and other operating costs.Ensure proper cash handling and banking procedures.Identify opportunities to improve store profitability. • Merchandising & Promotions Ensure promotional campaigns are correctly executed.Monitor product displays, pricing and planogram compliance.Improve product visibility and promotional effectiveness.Work with suppliers/head office on new products and promotions. • Compliance & Risk Management Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.Conduct safety, security, food hygiene and operational checks.Follow up on audit findings and ensure corrective actions are completed.Monitor cash-security and loss-prevention procedures. • Store Improvement Identify opportunities to improve store productivity and customer experience.Develop improvement plans for weak-performing outlets.Support new-store openings, renovations and operational changes.Benchmark performance between stores and share best practices. • Reporting & Communication • Prepare regular reports on sales, manpower, inventory and store performance. • Communicate company initiatives and targets to Store Managers. • Provide management with recommendations based on store performance data. • Escalate major operational issues promptly.
