Project Title
Solid State Drive Manufacturing Productivity and Operational Improvement
Project Description
The Solid State Drive Manufacturing Intern will undertake a structured improvement project within the Manufacturing Operations team. The intern will apply industrial engineering, lean manufacturing, and data analytics principles to identify opportunities related to productivity, quality, safety, material flow, and operational efficiency.
The project may cover Front End of Line, Middle End of Line, Back of Line, or Configure-to-Order manufacturing operations. The intern will gain practical exposure to semiconductor manufacturing while collaborating with Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Process Engineering, Test Engineering, Quality, and Planning stakeholders.
Where relevant, the intern will use AI-Enabled analytics tools, Generative AI, or an AI Assistant to enhance data analysis, identify patterns, develop visualizations, and improve project documentation.
Objective of the Project
The objective is to provide the intern with practical experience in manufacturing improvement methodologies while contributing to a defined project that improves operational performance. The project will enable the intern to translate engineering knowledge into data-driven recommendations and sustainable improvement solutions.
Opportunities for Full Time Employment
Upon successful completion of the internship, the intern may be considered for future full time employment opportunities, subject to satisfactory performance, role availability, and business needs.
Project Scope
The intern will undertake one or more of the following project areas:
• Conduct manufacturing time studies and process observations to identify non-value-added activities and improvement opportunities.
• Analyze production layouts, material flow, logistics arrangements, workplace organization, and ergonomic conditions.
• Evaluate process quality, capacity, utilization, throughput, and other manufacturing performance indicators.
• Develop dashboards or visualization solutions using Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or suitable AI-Enabled analytics tools.
• Propose and evaluate improvement solutions through data analysis, impact assessment, and implementation planning.
Learning Opportunities
• Gain practical knowledge of Solid State Drive and semiconductor manufacturing processes.
• Apply lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and industrial engineering principles in a manufacturing environment.
• Build experience in data collection, statistical analysis, visualization, and AI-Enabled ways of working.
• Develop project management, structured problem-solving, and cross-functional stakeholder engagement skills.
Deliverables
• Current-state assessment supported by relevant manufacturing data and process observations.
• Analysis of improvement opportunities, expected benefits, risks, and implementation considerations.
• Selected improvement proposal, pilot, or implementation plan with measurable project indicators.
• Dashboard, visualization, analytical model, or reporting tool, where applicable.
• Final presentation and project documentation covering outcomes, recommendations, lessons learned, and sustainability considerations.
Impact of the Project
• Improve manufacturing productivity, capacity utilization, or operational efficiency.
• Reduce non-value-added activities, process variation, or inefficient material movement.
• Enhance workplace safety, ergonomics, quality controls, or visual management practices.
• Increase visibility of manufacturing performance through data analytics and visualization.
Skillsets Required
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
• Familiarity with SQL, Python, statistical analysis, Generative AI, an AI Assistant, or other AI-Enabled analytics workflows is an advantage.
• Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical findings clearly.
• Ability to manage a defined project independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.
Course of Interest
The ideal candidate should be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Data Analytics, Operations Management, or a related engineering discipline.
Duration of Period
The ideal candidate should be able to commit to a full time internship period of 5 months from Jan to May 2027.
