Position Overview
Vantage is looking for a driven Director, Development Delivery, Malaysia to lead the successful delivery of data center developments and associated utility infrastructure across Malaysia. This role will partner closely with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in alignment with Vantage's strategic objectives.
This position will oversee the requisite entitlement/permitting, utility power infrastructure, high-voltage (HV) substations, energization and commissioning activities, and all aspects of construction.
As a leader, you will be responsible for managing multiple projects and project teams, ensuring successful execution from development through commissioning while maintaining alignment with Vantage's strategic objectives. Collaboration and integration in the sales lifecycle process including client interface is integral to the role. Coordination and translation of requirements from Vantage's internal subject matter experts ensures long-term operational sustainability is preserved while driving towards optimized construction delivery. The role will also provide leadership for the design, delivery, energization and commissioning of critical utility infrastructure supporting current and future Malaysia campus developments.
The role is based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Essential Job Functions
• Support the development, standardization, and management of Malaysia delivery programs to ensure consistent execution across projects while driving cycle-time and cost efficiencies.
• Assist in the development of project tools, processes, and procedures that ensure the “perfect project” is launched every time (execute, refine, repeat).
• Partner with Delivery leadership to define and enhance business engagement processes that improve project execution and decision making.
• Develop comprehensive QA/QC programs that prevent problems from occurring and identify risks early in the project lifecycle.
• Actively engage with all peer-level team members to develop and partner on the initiatives above, including Operations, Operations Engineering, Procurement, Engineering, Finance, and Executive leadership teams.
• Lead, through delegation to the team, all aspects of construction including pre-construction, design, permitting, entitlements, competitive bidding, team selection, construction, commissioning, and project closeout.
• Lead the planning, design, delivery, energization and commissioning of high-voltage utility infrastructure and substations supporting Malaysia campus developments.
• Provide technical leadership and oversight for utility engagement, grid connection requirements, HV systems, power infrastructure delivery, commissioning activities and operational readiness.
• Hold the project team accountable to create and manage project budgets and establish monthly forecasts, including variance management.
• Lead by example to ensure that the project team drives coordination and integration of internal stakeholders within the project.
Duties
• Manage campus-wide execution of development projects from concept through commissioning and prepare various reports on a monthly and/or quarterly basis.
• Manage resource allocation and project workflow for assigned direct reports and third-party resources.
• Drive day-to-day construction decisions to conclusion.
• QA/QC work products of direct reports and confirm accuracy. Manage inputs and delivery of work products from internal team members to ensure that new data center spaces comply with all applicable requirements (BOD, specifications, code, lease, etc.).
• RFP creation and management for capital projects and customer builds.
• Develop project budgets and support approval processes in partnership with Delivery and Finance leadership.
• Support sales in customer engagement and fulfillment of requirements as tied to leases and manage delivery in accordance with lease obligations.
• Partner with Senior Director of Construction Cost and Finance to produce monthly project forecasts, including variance analyses, as well as execution of master service agreements (MSAs) and project authorizations for new and existing contractors and vendors.
• Vendor/Contractor management, including qualification and relationship building/maintenance.
• Review monthly billing with direct reports, confirm substantiation and audit against budget.
• Ensure lessons learned are captured and incorporated into the feedback loop to drive continuous improvement.
• Ensure project team compliance with Vantage project turnover documentation requirements to operations.
• Work closely with Operations to coordinate design criteria and construction with ongoing maintenance and operation of existing facilities.
• Lead and oversee all aspects of utility power infrastructure delivery, including utility coordination, transmission connection works and the design and construction of substations up to 275kV.
• Provide leadership and oversight of high-voltage power systems, energization planning and commissioning activities to ensure safe, compliant and successful project delivery.
• Manage critical utility and equipment vendors associated with grid connections, substations, transformers, protection systems and related electrical infrastructure.
• Support the design and delivery of current and future campus power infrastructure expansions, ensuring scalability, operational reliability and on-time energization.
