Roles & Responsibilities: -
Planning & Coordination
• Review approved drainage layouts, shop drawings, specifications, and work instructions before commencing work.
• Plan daily drainage installation activities according to the approved construction program.
• Coordinate with Plumbing, Water Reticulation and Waterproofing departments.
• Coordinate drainage routes, pipe levels, gradients, invert levels, manholes, inspection chambers, floor drains, gullies, and connections.
• Confirm work areas, access, excavation requirements, materials, tools, and equipment before starting work.
• Report site constraints, clashes, access problems, or discrepancies in drawings to the Site Manager.
Supervise the installation of waterproofing systems
• Supervise waterproofing works associated with drainage and plumbing installations in wet areas.
• Ensure floor wastes, drains, pipe penetrations, sleeves, and drainage connections are correctly positioned and securely installed before waterproofing.
• Coordinate with waterproofing personnel to ensure proper sealing around drainage pipes and penetrations.
• Check that drainage pipework and fittings are installed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and applicable standards before waterproofing is applied.
• Ensure surfaces around drains and pipe penetrations are properly prepared, clean, dry, and suitable for waterproofing.
• Inspect waterproofing application around floor drains, pipe penetrations, joints, corners, and other drainage interfaces.
• Verify that waterproofing systems provide continuous protection and prevent water leakage into surrounding structures.
• Ensure correct falls and drainage levels are maintained so that water flows effectively toward floor wastes and drainage outlets.
• Identify and rectify defects such as gaps, cracks, inadequate sealing, damaged membranes, or improper drainage connections.
• Coordinate waterproofing and drainage works to prevent damage to completed waterproofing systems during subsequent installation activities.
• Conduct or assist with water ponding, leak, and drainage flow tests as required before areas are covered or handed over.
• Ensure waterproofing and drainage works comply with project specifications, approved method statements, safety requirements, and relevant regulations.
• Maintain inspection records, test results, and documentation for completed waterproofing and drainage works.
• Report non-conformances, leakage risks, or defective waterproofing installations to the Technical Manager, Site Manager or Project Manager.
Quality Assurance & Quality Control (QA/QC)
• Carry out drainage works in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, method statements, ITPs, and applicable standards.
• Check pipe diameter, material, alignment, gradient, invert level, jointing, fittings, and installation quality.
• Ensure drainage connections are properly sealed and free from leakage.
• Conduct or assist with required tests, including water tests, leakage tests, air tests, flow tests, and other specified drainage tests.
• Ensure pipes are clean and free from construction debris before testing and commissioning.
• Report defective or non-conforming work to the supervisor and carry out rectification as instructed.
• Cooperate with QA/QC personnel during inspections and testing.
• Ensure completed drainage works are protected until accepted and handed over.
Technical Problem Solving
• Identify problems involving pipe gradients, levels, routing, blockages, alignment, connections, and access.
• Assist in resolving drainage installation difficulties and site constraints.
• Identify potential clashes with structural, civil, architectural, electrical, HVAC, and other MEP services.
• Report discrepancies between drawings and actual site conditions before proceeding.
• Assist in resolving leakage, blockage, poor drainage flow, or incorrect installation issues.
• Carry out approved rectification works and re-testing where required.
Safety Compliance
• Comply with all client and project HSE requirements.
• Attend toolbox meetings and follow approved Job Safety Analysis (JSA/JHA) and safe work
procedures.
• Use required PPE at all times.
• Follow safe working practices during excavation, trenching, lifting, pipe installation, cutting, drilling, and confined-space activities.
• Ensure trenches and excavations are properly protected and accessed.
• Follow confined-space entry requirements when working inside manholes, tanks, inspection chambers, or other restricted areas.
• Maintain safe housekeeping and clear access around work areas.
• Report unsafe conditions, incidents, near misses, and damaged tools/equipment immediately.
• Ensure work does not create hazards for other workers or damage completed construction.
Material & Resource Management
• Check pipes, fittings, drains, traps, manholes, accessories, and other materials before installation.
• Use only approved materials as specified by the project.
• Handle and store drainage materials correctly to prevent damage.
• Ensure pipes and fittings are protected from contamination, deformation, and unnecessary exposure.
• Use tools and equipment properly and efficiently.
• Minimize material wastage and report damaged or defective materials.
• Inform the supervisor of material shortages or additional requirements.
• Maintain tools and equipment in safe and serviceable condition.
Documentation & Reporting
• Report daily completed drainage works to Technical Manager or Site Manager.
• Inform of completed sections requiring inspection.
• Record testing and inspection information as required.
• Report defects, leaks, blockages, damaged materials, and site problems.
• Assist with inspection requests, checklists, testing records, and handover documentation.
• Support preparation of as-built information by providing accurate installed route and location details.
• Maintain proper records of rectification and re-testing activities where applicable.
