Account Executive - API Sales

MerchantSpring is launching a new commercial division focused on its API offering, and we're hiring our first Account Executive to own it. You'll be the commercial owner for API opportunities: prospecting accounts, running the full sales cycle, and closing new business. Because you're selling a technical product to technical buyers, you'll also lead discovery, scope solutions, and run demos. The job is to win deals, not to sit in a pre-sales or engineering seat. This is a quota-carrying sales role, so you'll own the numbers, not support someone who does. Working closely with leadership, product, engineering, and customer-facing teams, you'll turn API demand into a repeatable sales funnel. Along the way you'll land our early customers, refine the go-to-market approach, and build the internal playbook. As the business grows, there are clear pathways into leadership, mentoring future hires and shaping the operating model for the team. What the role looks like day to day Identifying relevant leads, opening the conversation, understanding the client's use case, shaping the end solution, and — above all — closing the deal. This is ideal for someone who loves combining technical problem-solving with actively driving revenue, rather than a traditional pre-sales or engineering role. You carry a quota and you own the outcome. Your responsibilities are to: • Own API opportunities end-to-end, from prospecting through close, against a quota. • Generate your own pipeline through research, direct outreach, partner mapping, and prospecting. • Identify and prospect accounts where MerchantSpring's API offers clear commercial value. • Lead discovery calls to understand customer workflows, technical requirements, and business objectives. • Run demos and articulate MerchantSpring's API capabilities, use cases, constraints, and implementation paths in a way that moves deals forward. • Shape solution designs that connect customer needs to practical API usage — in service of closing. • Engage commercial, product, data, and engineering stakeholders throughout the sales process. • Build the repeatable sales funnel, SOPs, and sales assets (FAQs, solution notes, demo flows, playbooks) for the Commercial API division. • Work with product and engineering to validate feasibility and feed market signal back into the roadmap. • Support future team growth as the function scales. What we're looking for • A track record of carrying and hitting an individual sales quota, or otherwise directly owning revenue outcomes. This is the core of the role. • Experience selling, scoping, or closing technical or developer-facing products — APIs, data platforms, SaaS integrations, analytics tools, or e-commerce technology. • A strong working grasp of APIs, integrations, data flows, authentication, and technical discovery — enough to be credible with technical buyers and translate a use case into a clear commercial path. • Comfortable running the full cycle solo: prospecting, discovery, demo, proposal, close. • Strong communicator with both technical stakeholders and commercial decision-makers, and strong written/documentation habits. • A self-starter who thrives in ambiguity and enjoys building process from the ground up — hungry to learn and led by curiosity to ask sharp questions. Note: this is a sales position, not a pre-sales, solutions engineering, or technical account management role. If you've been an SE or consultant and are looking to move into a quota-carrying seat, tell us how you've influenced or owned revenue. What's on offer • Competitive base plus uncapped performance-based commission. • Scale the Commercial API division from the ground up and own the revenue number. • Shape the go-to-market strategy for MerchantSpring's API product. • A clear pathway into leadership as the division scales. • Join an international team with clients across the Americas, Europe, and APAC. • Hybrid working from a modern co-working space in our Kuala Lumpur office. • Opportunities for global travel.
