The Role
The Senior Optical Transceiver Test Technician supports manufacturing and engineering testing of high-speed optical transceiver products. The role focuses on production test execution, automated test station operation, hardware troubleshooting, failure verification, engineering builds, and continuous improvement activities.
You will work closely with Test Engineers, Product Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, and Quality teams to support stable test performance, high equipment availability, and consistent manufacturing yield.
What you will be doing...
• Operate automated test stations for optical transceiver products and execute production testing according to approved procedures and work instructions.
• Perform optical and electrical testing for 800G / 1.6T optical modules , including engineering validation builds and pilot production testing.
• Verify module functionality, accurately record test results, and ensure the correct fixture, cable, fiber, and connector configuration before testing.
• Perform daily setup, calibration verification, preventive maintenance, and hardware support for automated test stations.
• Troubleshoot equipment including DCA, BERT, power meters, SMU, temperature controllers , and other laboratory equipment.
• Maintain optical fibers, connectors, adapters, fixtures, and consumable components while supporting high equipment uptime and minimizing production interruptions.
• Verify failed optical modules, reproduce manufacturing test failures, and collect engineering data such as DCA waveforms, BER results, optical power, and DDM data.
• Perform module, fixture, cable, and station correlation testing and assist Test Engineers with root-cause investigations.
• Monitor production yield, report recurring failure modes and equipment abnormalities, and support yield and continuous improvement activities.
• Maintain accurate test and equipment maintenance records and support updates to work instructions and technician checklists.
• Follow EHS, laser safety, electrical safety, ESD, and 5S requirements within laboratory and production test areas.
About You
• Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, Optical Engineering , or a related discipline.
• 3+ years of experience in optical module manufacturing, test engineering, or high-speed electronics testing.
• Experience operating automated manufacturing test equipment is highly preferred.
• Experience with optical communication products is strongly preferred.
• Experience supporting engineering builds and production ramp is an advantage.
• Hands-on experience with optical test equipment such as DCA / Sampling Oscilloscope, BERT, Optical Power Meter, Optical Spectrum Analyzer (OSA), SMU, Temperature Controller, and DC Power Supply .
• Basic understanding of 400G / 800G optical modules, PAM4, Tx/Rx testing, optical power, BER, Eye Diagram, and DDM / CMIS monitoring .
• Hands-on skills in optical fiber handling and cleaning, high-speed electrical connectors, test fixtures, cable and adapter troubleshooting, and basic electronics measurement using multimeters and oscilloscopes.
• I2C / USB communication operation experience is preferred.
• Able to work in a manufacturing production floor and engineering laboratory environment in Penang, Malaysia , with shift support when required during production ramp.
