Staff Nurse, Operating Theatre (Scrub/Recovery)

RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Assist in the total care plan for the patients in the Operating Theatre (OT) and ensure equipment is in good working order before surgery. 2. Assumes the responsibilities of a scrub nurse to ensure that surgical procedures will proceed smoothly and safely. 3. Assists anesthetist/ surgeons during operation for both minor and major surgery. 4. Administers medication accurately and timely under sound working knowledge of legislation and pharmacology. 5. Check and receive a patient from unit staff for surgery and ensure consent and blood investigations are ordered and results available before receiving the patient to holding bay. 6. Orders, administers, records usage of drugs and checks GA trolley at every shift to ensure all drugs and equipment are in place. 7. Observe infection Control practices & provides supervisory support within the assigned area. 8. Assists with the orientation of newly appointed nursing staff and participates in the training of students and junior staff for preoperative care. 9. Provide basic nursing care and support to patients and family members in a quiet and calm environment. 10. Adheres to set policies and procedures to meet organizational needs. JOB REQUIREMENTS 1. Minimum Diploma/ Degree in Nursing with valid nursing Annual Practicing Certificate 2. Possess Post-Basic certificate in Perioperative Nursing & minimum of 2 years experience in OT is an added advantage 3.
